The collaboration highlights the growing strength of the device ecosystem in India. The ICOMM WiMAX portfolio is comprised of the ICOMM 700, an outdoor modem, the ICOMM 610, an integrated broadband router for the home, and the ICOMM 900 USB dongles.
"Combining our expertise in designing high-performance products at affordable prices with Beceem's best in class WiMAX chips and know-how has led to a product portfolio whose price and performance is second to none in the global market," said Sumanth Paturu, MD of ICOMM Tele.
"It is clear that wireless broadband era has now finally arrived in India," said Arogyaswami Paulraj, co-founder and chief technology officer of Beceem. "Working closely with ICOMM has allowed both of us to bring tailor made solutions to the Indian market, and help accelerate BSNL's WiMAX deployment. ICOMM and Beceem can now offer proven solutions to the private operators launching WiMAX networks in India beginning 2010."
The customer-premises equipment (CPE) products are specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements of the Indian market. Beceem's BCS5200 gateway chipset offers high data throughput and simultaneous VOIP support while its two-antenna transmit diversity solution provides a 2dB larger link budget advantage over similar products in the market. In addition, the ICOMM 700 outdoor CPE has integrated an ultra low-cost PoE solution and a customised environmental enclosure.
All ICOMM products are WiMAX Forum Wave 2-certified and the first generation of ICOMM's WiMAX products supports the 2.5GHz spectrum. This is already being deployed inside BSNL's new mobile WiMAX network in the Kerala circle.
