AU Optronics has rolled out a new range of mobile device displays and technologies, including what the company claims as the world's first 120Hz ultra-high refresh rate QHD gaming notebook PC panel.

The 17.3in (2560pi x 1440pi) gaming notebook PC panel has a 5ms super fast response time and 1.8 times higher pixel density than full HD, making it the panel with the highest resolution among 120Hz models. The panel is capable of demonstrating extremely smooth and impressive picture quality, setting a new standard for gaming notebook PC panel specifications. 17.3-inch UHD 4K (3840pi x 2160pi) ultra high resolution notebook PC panel has an ultra high pixel density of 255 PPI and high colour saturation to significantly increase image fineness, boasting exceptional image depth and vivid details.

AUO also made use of LTPS’ high resolution and high aperture ratio to present smartphone and notebook PC applications combining high resolution, ultra narrow border, and slim and power-saving features. The 5-inch full HD LTPS smartphone display has a ultra narrow module border of 0.4mm, integrates high aperture ratio and AHVA technologies, and sports a ultra slim backlight module to form a panel that is only 0.9mm thick, making the device all the more compact with superb picture quality and colours.

The 13.3-inch UHD 4K ultra high resolution LTPS notebook PC panel has a pixel density of 332 PPI to show delicate and lifelike image details. Its 1mm only ultra narrow border design allows for even more display active area, and the panel is only 2mm thick, exhibiting a sleek and modern contour. The display is in line with the trend for slimmer, lighter and more power-saving mobile devices, which can be used for both notebook PCs and hybrid notebook PCs.

AUO also introduced a 6-inch WQHD (1440pi x 2560pi) LTPS in-cell touch panel with narrow border design and high pixel density of 491 PPI, showing off vivid and sharp images and website text without losing their accuracy when being enlarged or reduced in size. In addition, the integrated design of the display driver IC and touch IC simplifies the overall module structure to increase production efficiency. The panel is also sensitive and glove-friendly.

The company also has a new full range of car displays for cluster application, including 25-inch ultra wide car display adopting free-form cutting and curved design. The display has an ultra high resolution (3840pi x 720pi) and 16:3 ultra wide aspect ratio, and is closely integrated with the interior design to craft a streamlined vehicle interior. 12.3-inch full HD AMOLED car display is high in resolution, contrast and response time, reaching a high NTSC 100% colour saturation. Its outstanding and accurate picture quality satisfies consumer demands in terms of navigation, in-car entertainment, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

High resolution AMOLED display technologies for smartwatches and virtual reality devices will also be soon available from AUO. In terms of smartwatch applications, 1.5 and 1.6-inch high resolution square AMOLED displays and 1.2 and 1.4-inch full circle AMOLED displays will be showcased. The ultra narrow border, high resolution and power-saving full circle AMOLED displays apply a special cut and driver IC design to create a full circular display area. Meanwhile, AMOLED's self-emissive nature and AUO’s self-developed driver circuit are utilised to achieve more than two times the duration under light mode against other smartwatches in the market, showing off impressive power-saving strength.

In terms of VR headset displays, AUO demonstrates 3.8-inch AMOLED display with high pixel density of 423 PPI. A set of two displays are designed together to offer a high 2K resolution (2160pi x 1200pi) for both eyes. When the headset display is placed close to the eyes, images are extremely fine with a wide viewing field. In addition, high colour saturation, high contrast with ultimate black state performance, and fast response time altogether allow for even smoother and more vivid images, offering the most lifelike immersive VR experience possible.
