In order to reduce maintenance costs of environmental sensor systems in industrial factories and plants, the power consumption of associated sensors needs to be lowered. This white paper describes how the power consumption of sensor systems can be reduced by utilising the standby functions of a microcontroller. It also outlines the importance of reducing the frequency of sensor measurements and keeping the system in standby mode for as long as possible. Renesas RL78/G11 16-bit MCU is ideally suited to the tasks described above, providing numerous peripheral functions that are available in standby mode.
