Hitachi will implement the Green Hospital Demonstration Project at AIIMS to reduce power consumption by 30%.

Hitachi Ltd and Hitachi India Pvt. Ltd have been asked to implement an ICT-based "Green Hospital Demonstration Project" at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. The project is run by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO).

The project demonstration, which will run for 3 years from March 2017 to March 2020, follows an initial feasibility study that Hitachi conducted at the AIIMS from April 2015 to February 2016 with its results evaluated by NEDO.

Hitachi will be required to build an ICT platform infrastructure for AIIMS with the objective of reducing the hospital's power consumption by 30% compared with fiscal year 2014. The aim is to use new infrastructure to control and promote efficient energy consumption as well as clinical efficiency.

In a press release, the company stated that India has an urgent need for improving social infrastructure. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare promoted energy conservation to AIIMS and announced "Green AIIMS concept" as a model case for other hospitals back in June 2014.

Green project starts with solar

The project involves installing a photovoltaic power generation facility, updating existing facilities, such as chillers and lighting, with highly efficient ones, as well as building a system for monitoring and controlling energy consumption status of the hospital. Hitachi will also accelerate electronic management of medical image data by introducing energy-saving IT equipment.

Hitachi aims for further conservation of energy by integrating operational information obtained from utility and medical equipment, clinical information obtained from the hospital information system and weather information on its ICT platform and by devising an optimal operation plan for utility equipment.
