Vishay has introduced Power Metal Strip resistor that offers 3W power, accurate measurement, reduced system errors and minimal power losses.
Vishay introduces the Power Metal Strip current sense resistor that provides a 3W power in just a 1216 case size. The WSK1216 uses a Kelvin 4-terminal connection for measurement accuracy as well as a 0.001Ω resistance, minimising power losses.
The WSK1216 packs some 260 W/in2 power density and a 4-terminal connection, which enables accuracy and a reduction in system errors compared to a 2-terminal device.
The WSK1216 uses a solid metal manganese-copper alloy with < 20 ppm/°C TCR and 1 percent tolerances. A processing technique enables a resistance value of 0.001Ω. The device provides a thermal EMF of < 3 µV/°C, an inductance of 0.5nH, a temperature range from -65°C to 170°C, and a solder temperature up to 350°C for 30s.
The resistor can be used for all types of current sensing, voltage division, and high-pulse load in power management applications such as in electronic controls in engine, transmission, anti-lock brake, intelligent parking brake, audio, and climate controls; and inverter controls for down-hole test and measurement equipment and commercial HVAC systems. The device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
Samples and production quantities of the WSK1216 are currently available, with six to eight weeks lead time for larger orders.
